April and Ian got married this past weekend, on her parents’ wedding anniversary. She came in to have her bridal portrait done a few weeks ago. Isn’t she beautiful?!

 

 

Did you know we have photographs of several Virginia universities? We have the lawn at UVA, the War Memorial Chapel at Virginia Tech, art class at VCU (formerly RPI), VMI, U of R, Randolph Macon, and Hampden Sydney to name a few.

Did you go to any of these schools, and if so, have they changed from the photos above?

Whitney and Jonathan got married at Main Street Station in Richmond, VA. The ceremony and reception were both held upstairs, and it was beautiful. We met up with Whitney and the bridesmaids at the Canal Walk before the wedding. They were a fun couple and it was a great day!

Meghan & Michael got married at Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond. The reception was held at The Jefferson Hotel.

Virginia Boat Club got its start over a century ago, in 1876. Originally located on Mayo Island, it remained there until 1972. Virginia Boat Club is currently located at 5708 East Main Street on the James River.

What’s your favorite way to spend time on the James River?

LaToya and Brandon wanted to have their engagement portraits done in downtown Richmond, near the canal. We also went over to the Tobacco Company Restaurant. Aren’t they the cutest?

We had the pleasure of photographing a 60th wedding anniversary party. The party was held at Shackleford’s Restaurant here in Richmond.

Did you know that the 60th anniversary is considered the Diamond anniversary?

America’s favorite sport, baseball! Did you know that Richmond had a baseball field on Mayo Island? Tate Field was located on Mayo Island until 1940. It was the home of Richmond’s semi-pro baseball team, the Richmond Colts. Even Babe Ruth played there in 1922!

In 1940 the James River flooded both Tate Field and the Virginia Boat Club boathouse. Tate Field closed and a new stadium opened on the Boulevard, called Mooers Field, where the Diamond stands now and the Flying Squirrels currently play. The VBC, however, rebuilt and opened for the 1941 season.
