About
In 1924, Anthony L. Dementi founded his studio with a vision of becoming the area’s leading commercial photographer. His career had begun in 1907 with Old Dominion Studio in Richmond, Virginia and continued with work in Atlanta, Georgia and Washington DC. Upon returning to Richmond in 1916, he studied under noted Richmond photographer W.W. Foster.
Anthony’s son, Robert A. Dementi, joined his father upon graduating from Washington and Lee University in 1940. Robert had just returned from a wartime assignment with the US Navy and quickly became a noted photographer himself, subsequently obtaining a Masters Degree in Photography and being elected to the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain.
Dementi Studio enjoyed its greatest period of growth during the post-WWII era of the 1940s and 50s. During this period, the business matured in its position in the commercial photography market while realizing significant gains in portrait photography as well.
In 1983, following his graduation from Washington & Lee University, third generation photographer A. Robert Dementi joined the studio and continued to build on the rich heritage of his predecessors.
Throughout these years of growth and a rapidly changing industry, Dementi Studio has remained a universally regarded cornerstone of photographic excellence in the Richmond VA market, contributing to the rich tradition of a historic community. Dementi Studio continues to be one of the top Richmond photographers in the wedding, commercial, portrait and product photography fields and we look forward to making you a part of Richmond’s photographic history.
Please help me…I have been given a photo of a child taken in the 1930s by my aunt, who is desperately seeking this grown child’s whereabouts…The child’s name was Billie Mays…Her father’s name was William McKinley Mays…The black and white photo of Billie is in a Demente Studio white folder…We weren’t sure if Billie Mays came back to your studio for her wedding photos to be done…If so, might you have her married name to help in our search..I will be glad to share this photo with you if it would help…Maybe someone would have information for my aunt, whom they visited in the 1930s…My aunt’s name is Virginia Elizabeth Moore Kruse and she lives in Wisconsin at the age of 76…
Thank you so much…Alice Pearson Reed, Virginia Beach, VA
I was at my brother’s house in Richmond this week and he had a picture of Hofheimer’s Shoe store from the 40’s. Do you have or can you produce a copy?
Thanks for your response
